'Boston Globe' Cuts Some Classified Sections
Jen: While The New York Times is drawing attention for the not exactly shocking (these days) move of allowing front page display advertising, its sister paper is busy making some changes. The Boston Globe wrote in a note to readers on the front page its dropping its stand alone classified section on certain days. Here's the skinny:
The Globe is no longer publishing a standalone classified advertising section Monday through Thursday. A classified section will appear in the paper on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and local classifieds may also be found in the Thursday regional sections. Classified ads can also be found 7 days a week online at www.boston.com/classifieds.
Several other papers across the country have changed up its print classified section and publishing frequency including the Chicago Tribune.
Globe spokesman Bob Powers said death notices, auctions, learning and legal notices won't be affected since they run in the news section.

Talk about too little too late - running ads on the front page won't save the P&Ls of major newspapers - including the New York Times. People want news on the web, on their phones and are increasingly unwilling to wait on delayed news from a newspaper. Unless the New York Times Company changes its strategy fast, it will soon follow Tribune Company into bankruptcy. Read more at http://www.ThePhoenixPrinciple.com
