After The Bell Thursday: On Sleepy Day, LEE Hogs All The Action

Yawning trader Fitz: Somebody, or somebodies, thinks Lee Enterprises Inc. stock (NYSE: LEE) is a bargain now, and they were buying Thursday. On an otherwise sleepy day for the newspaper sector -- with light trading  and minuscule swings in prices -- LEE chalked up a volume of 1.15 million shares, nearly double its normal action.

LEE ended the session at 56 cents, up 17 cents, or 43.59%. The price swing boosted its market cap back above the critical $25 million mark for a stock that faces delisting for falling below minimums for share price and capitalization.

Recent favorite Media General Inc. (NYSE: MEG) also gained on the day, increasing 16 cents a share, or 4.86%, to $3.45.

But that was about it for movement on the day. Losers were not down by much: Gannett Co. (NYSE: GCI) 0.92%; New York Times (NYSE: NYT), 0.27%; The McClatchy Co. (NYSE: MNI), 1.35%.

Neither were gainers.  The Washington Post Co. (NYSE: WPO) crept up 0.48% on half its normal volume while A.H. Belo (NYSE: AHC) gained 0.6%.
